Washtenaw County Board Considers Millage to Fund Planned Parenthood
Washtenaw County is considering a 2-mill property tax increase that would send millions to Planned Parenthood. Contact commissioners now and attend the August 5 meeting to oppose the millage before the final vote.
Warriors for Life
Washtenaw County Commissioners recently approved a $500,000 “non-structured” allocation to Planned Parenthood of Michigan. Now they are moving forward with a proposal that would raise your property taxes to send even more taxpayer money to abortion providers.
We must act now to stop this.
What Happened
On July 1, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners voted to give Planned Parenthood $500,000 in emergency funding for “operations.”
Not satisfied, the Board is now considering placing a 2-mill property tax increase on the November ballot. This millage would generate approximately $5.1 million per year for the next three years. Under the proposal, 25% of the funds would go to organizations that provide “sexual and reproductive care” — which includes Planned Parenthood. That means roughly $1.3 million in taxpayer dollars could go to Planned Parenthood every year.
The Board passed the first reading of the millage proposal by a narrow 5-4 vote. This gives us a real opportunity to stop it at the final vote.
Next Critical Vote
The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners will hold its final vote on the millage at their meeting on:
Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 7:00 p.m.
220 N. Main St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104

Sample Statement You Can Use
I was disappointed to learn that you recently approved a $500,000 grant to Planned Parenthood and are now considering providing even more money in the form of a new millage with its increased property taxes. This is an affront to every taxpayer in the region. It defies common sense that, with all of the existing demands on county residents, this was prioritized. It is particularly troubling in an election year given all the money Planned Parenthood spends on political campaigns.
This county has no lack of reproductive healthcare services. Such an action is entirely ideologically driven. With federal funds recently restored to Planned Parenthood, there is absolutely no justification for this millage. Enough is enough.
I respectfully request that this increased millage proposal is rejected.
