House Republicans are fixing the d**n roads
Letter from Matt Hall, Speaker of the House
Michigan families deserve safe, reliable roads without paying more at the pump. That is exactly what House Republicans delivered.
In this year’s budget, we secured nearly $2 billion in ongoing funding dedicated specifically to fixing local roads and bridges across our state. This is a real, long-term investment that communities can count on year after year, not a temporary patch or a one-time quick fix.
Not only will the roads be safer and smoother for a more enjoyable ride, but Michiganders, on average, will save an additional $750 in vehicle maintenance. Fewer potholes means less damage to your car and more money in your wallet.
Just as important, this plan is revenue-neutral at the pump. There is no gas tax hike. Families are already paying enough, and we made it clear that fixing the roads should not come at the expense of household budgets.
For years, when gas prices went up, more money flowed into Lansing, but too little of it made its way back to the roads people actually drive. Under this plan, that changes. 100% of the revenue collected at the pump is dedicated to road and bridge repair, where it belongs!
This approach keeps costs the same for drivers, provides stable funding for infrastructure, and ensures transparency and accountability in how those dollars are used. It is a straightforward promise: the money you pay for roads goes to roads.
House Republicans are focused on practical solutions that work for Michigan families. Fixing our roads without raising the price at the pump is a commitment we are proud to keep.
