Ghost in the Machine

The Rural Michigan Defense Fund will screen Valerie Veatch’s documentary Ghost in the Machine at the Clinton Theater, then host a community discussion on the Saline Township data center project.

The film looks at the history and costs of the current AI buildout, including energy demand, hidden labor, and the gap between industry promises and what these facilities actually do. After the screening, the conversation will focus on local issues: farmland conversion, township zoning and the lawsuit that followed the board’s “no” votes, electricity and water impacts, property rights, and who pays when a small rural community is asked to host a hyperscale facility.
