Kathy Schmaltz

Kathy Schmaltz is a resident of Jackson County and currently serves in the Michigan State House of Representatives for the 46th District which includes the Cities of Jackson and Chelsea along with Blackman, Leoni, Sylvan and part of Summit Townships. Prior to being elected in 2022, Kathy was an anchor and writer for the 6:00 and 11:00 pm news on WILX-TV10 (NBC) in Lansing. She also served as News Director of Community Relations. She was a Governor appointee to the Michigan Education Trust and Michigan Hospital Finance
Authority Board. Kathy previously served on the boards of the State Easter Seals, Michigan Dyslexia Institute, Henry Ford Hospital Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, United Way, and also as a Trustee of the Purple
Rose Theatre. Currently Kathy serves on the Michigan Theatre Board, 100 Women Who Care, Chair of the Jackson Grand Slam for Kids, Good Shepherd Catholic Radio, and others.


In the Legislature, Rep. Schmaltz serves on the Energy, Health, and as Vice-Chair of the Behavioral Health Committee.
